Huge retro Japanese party ashtray with multiple rests and snuffers.
Retro Japanese hand-made ashtray imported to the United States in the good old days. Before the U.S. imported everything from China, it imported almost everything from Japan. After World War II, Japan increasingly became the provider of U.S. imported products until it was replaced by China in the late 1980’s. This mod ashtray was probably imported for U.S. consumption in the 1960’s to 1970’s.
It’s a big ashtray, measures 10″ round. Can accommodate the whole party. The rim offers 9 cradle rests surrounded by multiple thumbprints that are handy for resting smaller smokes, incense, pokers, etc. The center is chock full of round thumbprint indents for snuffing out.
Still retains the old ‘Made in Japan” sticker on the base. Hand-formed and hand-glazed. The mossy yellow green glaze reflects the organic tastes of the hippie generation. In perfect condition.
