Elegant quality Swedish Modern style crystal ashtray by Tiffin Glass Company, USA circa 1940s.
Made of thick hand-formed vintage colorless crystal with trapped bubble decor. Polished base and heat finished rim. Weighs just under 3 lbs.
Under black light, the crystal glows a very light greenish. This indicates Manganese was used instead of lead. During the war years lead was scarce and Manganese was used to replace lead in hand-mixed glass batches.
The crystal is clear and brilliant. Nice 3″ deep bowl to catch the ash and butts. Four rests. Makes a good pipe ashtray too. Doubles as a catch-all or vase when not in ash service. Measures 5″ wide, 3″ tall. Weighs 3 lbs.
